1. StencilCoat Primer-Sealer Concentrate should be used on old concrete and asphalt surfaces to ensure superior bonding. Mix concentrate 1 to 1 with water to be used as a primer and 1 part concentrate to two parts water as a sealer.
2. Primer-Sealer can be applied using a backpack sprayer, rolling or brushing onto the surface. A coverage rate of 1,000 sq ft per 2 gallon pail as a primer and 1,500 sq ft as a sealer is average.
StencilCoat for the Base Coat
1. StencilCoat can be rolled on, or sprayed and back-rolled using a hopper texture gun to spray (use 3rd smallest orifice size to spray) and a 1/2" nap roller to back-roll. On large projects a large texture sprayer can be used. Full hide (enough coating to completely cover the substrate) should be accomplished with the base coat. Allow base coat to dry (approximately 15 to 30 minutes on a 70° day) before applying the stencils or top coats.
2. Constant cleaning of the spray equipment with water is required when spraying StencilCoat. Clean hopper and gun every second or third fill to avoid difficult cleanup. A thin film of Vaseline (petroleum jelly) spread on the inside of the hopper using a sponge will allow for easier cleanup.
3. Strain all coatings prior to spraying. Use an 8" stainless steel kitchen strainer.
4 Wipe down the sides of the coating pail using a spatula. With a wet (water) paint brush, brush the sides and leave the excess water on the surface of the coating. Leaving a little water on the surface of the coating, left over coating can be used at a later date. Use this method when coating needs to sit on the job awhile.
StencilCoat for the Top Coats
1. Strain StencilCoat before spraying. Use a hopper texture gun to spray the top coats and do not back-roll. Spray first coat in one direction and the second coat in the other direction to ensure even coverage.
2. Using a slow circular motion with the texture gun will stop excess buildup of coating caused when spraying with a start and stop motion. The goal of the second top coat is to achieve an even textured surface.
Speckling with StencilCoat
1. Speckling can be accomplished using the smallest orifice on the texture gun and lightly spraying a speckle of a different color onto the surface. It may be necessary to lower the pressure of the compressor for this proceedure.
